Long Mull Shawls
Long Mull Shawls
This new collection of blue cotton shawls and bandanas are all hand-dyed using Indigofera tinctoria from South India. I used fructose as a reducing agent for the first time. So happy with how these turned out! These are dry now and yes they are dark blue shades! Getting dark blue requires multiple dips in the indigo vat to build up the colour. I lost track by six dips and each dip lasted for about 15 minutes depending on the thickness of my resist folds. And then I let it aerate (oxidation) for 30 mins and the vat rest for the same time. So this is roughly 4.5 hours of work for each shawl to dye with indigo. (Sorry for all the jargon - you gotta come to one of Indigo workshops this year and let me introduce you to this alchemy!)
